Rizal then left for Cuba and the revolution in the Philippines began in earnest. It would provide them with important intel that they could use in the upcoming revolution! So it was important that Rizal should in no way be linked to the Katipunan, thereby assuring that his trip to Cuba would continue as planned. Knowing this, it was in the Katipuneros' interest that Rizal reach Cuba. Valenzuela also said that the true reason behind Rizal volunteering to be a military doctor for the Spaniards during their war with Cuba was not to show loyalty to Spain, but to observe how the Cubans were winning the war against the Spaniards.
These included recruiting Antonio Luna to their cause and soliciting financial aid from rich Filipinos. The advice Rizal gave was then relayed to Bonifacio who followed all of what Rizal said. Pio Valenzuela some advice when the latter visited him in Dapitan.
